Perch Stool Construction Complete

4 Oct 2026

We've completed construction of the perch stool. First we "super-dried" the leg tenons in some hot sand. Not sure how much of a difference this will make... I guess we'll find out in 20 years if this thing is still holding together.

The pine seat isn't the nicest to look at, so I'll probably paint the seat and leave the legs with a clear finish. Something to do once we get back from holidays.

For gluing in the undercarriage we used hide glue. It's only the second project I've used it on, but the long working time and the reduced "bite" it has in pressure joints makes it far less stressful to work on. Having a temperature set pot would make it easier to keep the glue at the right working consistency.
